Hickory, North Carolina

Hickory NC,  located primarily in beautiful Catawba County, is nestled between the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountain foothills and the Catawba River, northwest of Charlotte NC real estate.  Although,  originally called “Chestnut Oak,” the name was changed to “Hickory Tavern,” after an inn built next a hickory tree by one Henry Robinson.   It wasn’t until 1863 that the town of Hickory Tavern permanently changed its name to Hickory.   Now home to over 41,000 people, Hickory NC is the core of the Catawba County and its population of about 160,000 residents.

Furniture making has been, and is, at the core of Hickory’s past, present and future.  There are plenty of great deals to be had on furniture so if you are looking to buy furniture then look in Hickory for the best selection and price.

Hickory NC is also western North Carolina’s best bet if you are hunting for antiques, local artisan pottery or browsing through art galleries.  Oh, and don’t forget to visit the local wineries for a delightful wine tasting!

Outdoors there are special events and learning experiences put on by the Catawba Science Center such as water sports, hiking, biking and fun at area parks.

The economic development of the city of  Hickory is a high priority and success is shown in the wide-range of service, medical, residential development, retail and its robust manufacturing foundation.   Future goals of the city are to cultivate both economic and job development as well as inviting businesses and manufacturers to relocate and/or stay in Hickory.
