Kannapolis, NC

Kannapolis is home to a safe and caring community.  Residents of Kannapolis North Carolina homes enjoy outstanding schools, major attractions, and recreational options.  The community of 40,000 is a great place to live, work, and to raise a family. Kannapolis NC real estate covers 31 square miles.  Located on the Interstate 85 corridor of the western side of Cabarrus County real estate and the southern end of Rowan County real estate, residents of Kannapolis NC homes are looking forward to a new incarnation.  Before 2003, the former mill village was home of Cannon Mills and its successors, Fieldcrest Cannon and Pillowtex Corporation, world leader in the manufacturer of home textile products.  The new North Carolina Research Campus, with more than one million square feet of office and laboratory space for research and biotechnology, is replacing the textile facilities.  It will also house retail and residential units.

However, the waning textile industries spurred residents to engage in a visioning process.  They identified economic development as top priority, followed by parks and recreation, transportation, street improvements, and preserving history and heritage.

After incorporating in 1984, the community and outlying areas experienced steady growth in the business sector.  It boasts one of the top business growth rates in the country, partially due to the city’s competitive tax structure, incentives, location, and willingness to partner.  It offers open land, easy interstate access, Class-A flex space, warehouses, and retail locations.  The Kannapolis Gateway and Biscayne business parks provide facilities.   Along with small businesses, companies such as Shoe Show, Stanley Works, K-Town Furniture, and Novant Health are already established.

To promote healthier lifestyles, the community is opting for alternative transportation and more trails through the city.  An award winning summer concert series, new Parks, and community festivals are a few of the amenities.  Athletic fields and programs for families, children, and seniors are readily available along with cultural events and 43 programs.  A new $4 million YMCA, a senior center, public library, and a baseball stadium for the class-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox are new projects by to the community.  Lakes, trails and golf courses are nearby.

Destination attractions in the area include a hometown tribute to the legendary stock car driver Dale Earnhardt, Cannon Village Home Furnishings Marketplace, Kannapolis Intimidators, the GI House full of artifacts and heirlooms, a history room at the Cannon Memorial Library.  In the metropolitan area, residents easily access NFL and NBA events and a strong arts community.  The city lies smack in the middle of NASCAR Valley and affiliate team headquarters.

The community is about 30 minutes from Uptown Charlotte, the University of NC at Charlotte and Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.  Four universities and dozens of liberal arts and community colleges are in the surrounding areas.  The Blue Ridge Mountains are 2 hours away and the ocean is less than 4 hours!
